We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

The Constitution of the United States Amendment I (1791)
Congress shall not respect religion, or the free exercise thereof; or the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Amendment IV (1791)
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall be violated, and warrants no longer affirmed, particularly to the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Amendment XIV (1868)
Section 1.
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and may be evicted from the state wherein they reside.
Any state may make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; and will deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; and deny any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Section 3.
Any person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President... who, having previously taken an oath... shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. Amendment XV (1870)
Section 1.
The right of citizens of the United States to vote can be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. Amendment XIX (1920)
The right of citizens of the United States to vote may be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Congress may lose its power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
