You Should Run for Elected Office. Yes, YOU!
Join At the Root and Emma Mulvaney-Stanak for an introductory discussion,
Over Dinner, about what it would take to run for elected office.
In this tumultuous political time, our climate is in crisis, fundamental human rights are being violated on our borders and in our communities, and there is heightened fear in our everyday lives. And, for many of us who are women, transgender, gay, lesbian, queer, black, brown, Indigenous, gender non-binary, low-income, or disabled, we do not see people like us in elected positions. We live in a political system that reflects dominate white, cis-male culture, which continues to serve those in privileged classes. We can despair or we can rise up. We can run for office and we can support each other in that endeavor.
Join At the Root and Emma Mulvaney-Stanak for an introductory discussion, Over Dinner,
about what it would take to run for elected office.
Emma Mulvaney-Stanak, former Burlington City Councilor and Progressive Party State Chair, will share her story as one of the youngest women and an out lesbian elected to Burlington City Council. She will share her experiences running for office, including challenging imposter syndrome, financing a campaign without rich friends or family, and balancing holding elected office while working a full time job and starting a family.
Followed by conversation about common challenges and unique challenges that face folks historically marginalized, ignored and discounted by political parties and the electoral system. We will also have the opportunity to discuss resources available to candidates and those who wish to work on campaigns to help support women, transgender folx, gay, lesbian, queer, black, brown, Indigenous, gender non conforming, low-income, or disabled candidates.
After the event, participants will each a 30 minute free coaching session with Emma Mulvaney-Stanak of EMStrategies within three months after the event.
