Viscosity

Picture

G and jen are two friends from different generations who care about examining, deconstructing and reconstructing the systems that have entrenched us for many years under many names. Months of conversations, explorations, laughs and cries, brought the idea for Viscosity to light.  As two artists with two different creative backgrounds, the idea of exploring our own experiences of finding a third, or other, option to the binaries felt like a next step.

As friends and studio mates, this is the first time that we have collaborated. jen’s passion for public art and installation helped shape the form of Viscosity, while G’s history of embodied poetry and performance inspired much of the content. We created this work to think about what we want, to break binaries, and to come home to our bodies and hearts, and also to explore the embodied experience of not living in the binaries. This generated the question “What do you need to navigate the spaces in between?”, which became the touchstone for the internal work of the installation. We came to this project with curiosity and hope to explore our internal viscosities and to question the containers, systems and binaries we have been placed into for our entire lives. We did all of this with love and gentleness, and hope that you experience this as you move through.
